Total Long Term Care

Total long-term care (TLC)

Even with the best of care and attention, our pets sometimes develop problems for which they need long-term medication to help keep them active and happy.

To help you, we’ve devised a new, pioneering programme called TLC or Total Long-term Care.

What does this mean for you and your pet?

We constantly strive to provide the best care possible and the TLC programme is designed to do just that by giving you:

Total care

Following diagnosis and before going on to long term medication your pet will have had a period of assessment. This involves your vet and healthcare team working with you to make sure your pet is stabilised on their medication. Once this happens you can collect medications on a repeat prescription.

Total convenience

Once your pet is stabilised you can purchase up to three months trreatment in a single visit depending on the condition diagnosed, the medication prescribed and your pet’s response to treatment. Your vet will advise you on the maximum amount of medication you can collect at a time and of course, it is no problem if you prefer to collect medication more frequently. Just let us know what is best for you!

Long term care

Your pet’s needs can change over time and it is vital that they are assessed regularly to check that all is still well. This Health Assessment involves a visit to the clinic for a full examination by one of our vets who will reassess all aspects of your pet’s health and medication.

Just as a doctor often does for us, the vet may advise further tests such as urine samples, blood tests and blood pressure measurement for which there may be some additional fees. We will always involve you in deciding what is best for you and your pet at all stages. Some of these tests and much of the advice you need will be carried out by one of our Pet Health Advisors, who are a team of highly trained staff.

Health Assessments are needed at least every six months and may be more frequent depending on your pet’s condition and response to treatment. Your vet will let you know how often we need to see your pet.
Some other things you need to know…

Information about prescriptions

Prescription only medicines (also known as POM-Vs) may be obtained from your veterinary surgeon or you may ask for a written prescription and obtain these medicines from a licensed dispensary. Your veterinary surgeon is only permitted to prescribe POM-Vs for animals under his or her care.

We aim to provide affordable care for your pet and the cost of any medication that we recommend will be available on request. However, because of the long-term needs of your pet, we have arranged for you to be able to purchase your pet’s medication from us at a particularly competitive price.

Some medications are not eligible for repeat prescription as the conditions they treat tend not to be intermittent and need careful monitoring, for example, eye and ear preparations.
What do you need to do?

It’s simple! Just call the clinic at least 48 hours before you need medication, to place your order and arrange collection. If your pet’s Health Assessment is due we will arrange for you to come and see us. If your pet’s condition should change in any way or there is something worrying you about any aspect of your pet’s health between visits please let us know. We have trained staff on hand to help and advise you.

Going on holiday? Please let us know well in advance to ensure you have enough medication to cover the time you are away.

As in everything we do, we strive to offer the best possible care at the most affordable cost. The TLC programme is another example of how we are able to offer great value combined with what we hope you will agree are high levels of service for our clients.

If you would like to discuss how the TLC programme can help you and your pet please ask at your next visit or get in touch with your local clinic.
